WhatsApp is continuously working on enhancing its user experience by introducing new features. Recent reports from WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks WhatsApp beta versions, reveal that WhatsApp is developing usernames and screen sharing capabilities. These new additions are poised to bring further convenience and functionality to the app.
The username feature, spotted in the beta version 2.23.11.15 for Android, allows WhatsApp users to select a unique username associated with their account. This feature suggests a potential shift away from relying solely on phone numbers to identify contacts. In the future, users might be able to find and connect with each other using their usernames. Furthermore, conversations initiated through usernames are protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring privacy and security.
Another exciting feature being tested is screen sharing during video calls. Beta testers using the 2.23.11.19 version of the Android app noticed a screen sharing button, which enables users to share their screen content with others during video calls. This capability can be valuable for various purposes, such as sharing presentations, demonstrating how to use certain apps, or collaborating on projects remotely. Notably, the feature also includes the ability to record the shared portion of the call, offering added convenience for users.
Additionally, WhatsApp is experimenting with a “status archive” setting aimed primarily at businesses. This feature allows businesses to archive their statuses after 24 hours and then reshare them in the future. By archiving statuses, businesses can maintain a record of their previous updates and reuse them as needed. While the status archive feature seems to be currently limited to businesses, it could potentially expand to other users in the future.
WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing its platform with new features reflects its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its vast user base. By introducing usernames, the app aims to streamline the process of finding and connecting with contacts, offering a more personalized experience. The addition of screen sharing empowers users to engage in more dynamic and interactive conversations, enabling seamless collaboration and sharing of information. Moreover, the status archive feature caters specifically to businesses, enabling them to effectively manage and reuse their status updates.
It’s worth noting that these features are currently being tested in beta versions of WhatsApp. While they have shown promise, there is no guarantee that they will be released in the stable version of the app. WhatsApp often tests various features in beta versions to gather feedback and make improvements before a wider rollout.
